December 2023: Project NO.11 is mijn afstudeerproject geweest van de opleiding conceptueel beeld aan de Fotoacademie Amsterdam.
Forensisch centrum Teylingereind in Sassenheim is één van de zes justitiële jeugdinrichtingen in Nederland, waar jongens tussen de 12 en 24 jaar terecht komen na een rechterlijke uitspraak.
De jongens die via het jeugdrecht veroordeeld zijn tot een PIJ-maatregel, in de volksmond ‘jongeren TBS’, zitten hun straf uit in een woongroep die bestaat uit maximaal 8 jongens. Hun straf duurt minimaal 3 jaar, maar kan gezien de TBS-kwalificatie verlengd worden tot maximaal 7 jaar.
Ze maken hier de overgang van adolescent naar volwassene mee. Ze willen zich manifesteren, maar zitten klem. Alles is te groot en tegelijkertijd te klein. Geïsoleerd en strak gekaderd vragen ze om vrijheid die er niet is.

Forensic center Teylingereind in Sassenheim is one of six juvenile justice institutions in the Netherlands, where boys between the ages of 12 and 24 are placed after a court decision.
The boys who have been sentenced to ‘a PIJ measure’ through the juvenile justice system, commonly called 'youth TBS', serve their sentence in a residential group consisting of a maximum of 8 boys.
Their sentence lasts at least 3 years, but can be extended to a maximum of 7 years given the TBS qualification. Here they experience the transition from adolescent to adult. The boys move like young tigers in a cage that is far too small, their bodies full of testosterone.
They want to manifest themselves, but are stuck. Everything is too big and too small at the same time. Isolated and tightly framed, they ask for freedom that is not there.
